Moving Dirt!

Mom and Dad were at it again! Yesterday they spread the rest of our ‘gifted’ base soil to the fire pit, guest house driveway and back in the field in a few low spots. The hope is that we can divert some of the rainwater/runoff away from areas that we park and walk. It’s not a small feat for sure. My son was eager to help despite freezing his tail off.

Grandpa and Grandson moving mountains…

When this house was built - they didn’t extend the driveway to the garage. Ridicoulous.

I’m eager to finish up the fire pit project - all it needs is some surround, sand, the pavers and  fill gravel. We are almost there, but we have some nasty weather heading our way, so that will have to wait.

Final layer before sand and stone! For context, we started digging this hole in July.

My next project is to take out the roosting bars in the chicken coop. We have a lot of chickens in there, and while our natural branches are very beautiful, the positioning is causing them to poop all over the walls, and sometimes on each other.

I’ve also noticed some of the older hens are having difficulty getting down from the higher perches in the morning and I don’t want to see any bumble foot. (The main cause is exactly that.) Chickens prefer to have thicker perches anyway, so we will be using some 2x4x10s positioned wide side up on each stud in the coop and about 12” apart in height. I’m hoping to do this before we put the four new girls in the the rest. We will see how the weather cooperates, but it will make their transition easier.

I also spent some time this weekend on new soap labels and our online store which has been a slow work in progress. I figure it will grow organically as we start producing enough to sell.
